005). In the asthma sample, CASIS scores were significantly correlated with the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire scores (all p < 0.0001) and differed significantly by clinician and patient-reported disease severity, exacerbation status, and overall health status (all p <= 0.0005).
Conclusion: The CASIS shows good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity and may be useful in helping to LY2606368 understand the impact that COPD and asthma have on sleep outcomes.”
“Fulminant hepatic failure is a rare complication of infection by varicella zoster virus that is favored by immunosuppression. Within 1 week, a 43-year-old male heart transplant recipient who was admitted with epigastric
pain successively developed a generalized vesicular rash, hepatitis, and secondary multiorganic failure involving encephalopathy, despite treatment with acyclovir (since Day 2) and varicella zoster virus immunoglobulin (since Day 6). Emergency liver transplantation was performed on Day 9, and 36 months
later, his heart and liver function are normal. J Heart Lung Transplant 2009;28:1215-6. Copyright (C) 2009 by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.”
“George Gregory, M.D. (1934-), Professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Francisco, has made numerous contributions to neonatology and pediatric anesthesia through his research efforts and authoritative textbook, Gregory’s Pediatric Anesthesia. However he identified his defining buy AZD7762 moment as the occasion he saved the life of an infant suffering from neonatal respiratory Selleckchem Caspase inhibitor distress syndrome by using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) ventilation. The development of CPAP by Gregory revolutionized the treatment of premature infants with respiratory failure. Prior to the creation of this treatment, the mortality rate of neonates with respiratory distress syndrome was >50%. The innovation
markedly improved the ventilation of infants with respiratory distress and led to significant improvements in survival rates. Based on an interview with Dr. Gregory, this article describes the discovery of CPAP and reviews his career in advancing pediatric anesthesia and critical care medicine.”
“Background: Malaria is a major public health problem in French Guiana, where Plasmodium vivax has become the dominant malaria species since 2000. As in others endemic areas, it is important to specify the pattern of vivax malaria relapses and to try to discriminate efficiently re-infections from relapses.
Methods: This study was conducted in children born between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2008 in Camopi, an Amerindian village located in the Amazon forest (n = 325), using an open cohort design. Primary and secondary attack rates of P. vivax were calculated using survival analysis. With the difference between the primary and secondary rates, this study aimed to estimate indirectly P. vivax relapse rate and evaluate its time evolution.
